What we do
Sawabona Africa, a registered charity in Germany, partners with small community-based charities in Southern Africa
that offer educational programmes.
We assess organisations and projects by the Sawabona standard
We build trusted and open relationships with our partners in South Africa
Our donations go directly to selected projects without an administration fee

Bright Start
Bright Start Education and Mentorship Programme provides access to quality education to children from poor communities in Cape Town, South Africa.
PYMA
Phakamani Young Minds Academy offers academic assistance, support, and mentorship to learners in Soweto, a large township in South Africa.
Help Lesotho
Help Lesotho delivers life skills training and mental health support in rural Lesotho.
AIDS decimated a generation – through child sponsorship and other programmes they help those who remain to move on and create lasting change in their communities.

Success Stories

Nicky
First child to join Bright Start. She attended the German International School: ‘I had an amazing schooling career, and going to the German International School was the highlight of my career. It has taught me to be an independent youth and has opened many doors for me. Without Bright Start I would not be as passionate as I am today.’
Nicky is studying a BA in International Studies at a top South African university.

Lethukuthula joined the PYMA afterschool programme in Grade 8. ‘With the support of PYMA I was able to improve my academic performance, win awards at school and I obtained 2 distinctions in my final exams. PYMA also supported with my registration fees for university’
Luthukuthula is now studying at the University of Johannesburg and is helping as a tutor at PYMA

Completed Projects
Sawabona Africa celebrates the opening of the new classroom with PYMA staff, students, tutors, parents, friends and the local councillor. PYMA is now able to teach the junior and senior school children in 2 separate classrooms. Watch our video of the arrival and celebration of the classroom.
We are not stopping now. We are raising funds for a new classroom to provide space for reading, studying and individual support to learners.
